There are two things that are buried in my head that I cannot recall in the traditional sense of having a memory.
One is based on the fact that I love long hot showers with the water running over my head and down my face. I know from having Dad tell the story more than once that as an infant (we started showering with Dad at about 1 month old) I would turn my face into the spray. No matter how Dad turned around I would twist to put my face in the water. He thought I was going to drown myself. I still shower that way.
The other I didn't figure out until several years ago. There is a place near the end of the Harbor Freeway that has a subtle odor that I just adore! Never could quite put my finger on what is was. One day Larry (Mr. Olfactory) and I were driving home and I mentioned the smell. He inhaled deeply and said, "You mean, machine oil?" Yes! That was it! That was how Dad smelled when he got home from work. Imagine, putting these together, laying against Daddy's chest, inhaling the smell of the shop and letting the warm water run on to my face and feeling loved and secure.
